Small Home Flaws That Can Be Big Deals for Buyers

Minor home flaws that you should fix when selling your home.

As a homeowner, you may have gotten used to the squeaky floorboards and the sticky door. However, when potential homebuyers are viewing the property, you can be sure that they will notice these flaws. Albeit minor, you may want to take some steps to correct these common flaws that can turn buyers off a property.

Ripped Window Screens – It’s natural for window screens to wear out over time. However, if they are torn, buyers will notice. They’re a pain for anyone to replace, but if they are unsightly and in clear view, buyers may ask that you fix them before they move in.

Sticky Door Locks – Live in a house long enough, and you’ll encounter a malfunctioning door latch or lock. That may be no big deal to you, but it may alarm buyers big time. If it’s an exterior door, they will likely view this as a major safety issue. Take the time to fix this before a buyer notices.

Location of Laundry Room – Even if you own a state-of-the-art washer and dryer and plan on leaving them for the new homeowners, they may not be so thrilled with these nice appliances if they aren’t situated in the ‘right’ place. You might be fine lugging your laundry to the basement, but don’t expect all buyers to feel the same way. Offer to move these items to a new location to warm buyers up.
